Marysville
Arts Company
The company emerged out of the events of Black Saturday (Australia's
worst bushfire disaster), with photos saved from the fire on a laptop,
six months of adrenalin and a will to give people a momento of their
town. Directors and good friends, David Casey and Julia Peddie were
working on setting up a business with their shared skills to promote
their beautiful mountain town, in the months before the fire destroyed
it all. Now more than ever, the town needs economic support and development,
and the Marysville Arts Company are contributing their skills and experience
to encourage visitors to come back and help the community rebuild.
David
Casey ~ Director and Photographer
David lost forty years of photography and all his equipment in the fire
in Marysville on 7th February, 2009, escaping with just one camera,
a laptop and his dog, Macsi. He has recently relocated a house to his
block in Marysville, and is one of Marysville's first residents to return.
Julia
Peddie ~ Director and Graphic Designer &
Art Therapist
Julia's home, a log cabin in a forest in Narbethong, miraculously survived
the fire. The CFA saved it twice from spot fires in the weeks after
Black Saturday, while she and David worked on the Marysville In
Loving Memory book. Julia has worked as a graphic designer for
16 years in publishing and the corporate sector. Julia is also an art
therapist and is passionate about community arts, and has worked tirelessly
with local children and the community since the fire. Julia is the co-ordinator
of the Triangle Arts Group, ensuring art and culture play an important
part in the community's recovery.
